David Wilkerson

AN EARTH-SHATTERING CALAMITY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. IT IS GOING TO BE SO FRIGHTENING, WE ARE ALL GOING TO TREMBLE — EVEN THE GODLIEST AMONG US.

If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake. (Gen. 18:26, ESV); For the sake of ten I will not destroy it. (v. 32)

The economy has tanked, and it’s time, once again, for the futurist fearmongers to terrorize us with predictions of catastrophe. Wilkerson claims that the Holy Spirit compelled him to announce that New York city is about to go up in flames. The fire will spread to New Jersey and Connecticut. He says, “We are under God’s wrath.” Your author’s daughter and her family live in New Jersey, so we might find such a pronouncement quite disturbing. Fortunately, however, we are comforted by Scripture.

Christians often proclaim, “I believe that God is going to judge the United States.” However, the Bible says God promised to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if only ten righteous people could be found therein (Gen. 18:32). Author, William E. Phipps, says there are more Christians in the United States than any other nation, and it’s probably safe to assume there are more than ten living in NYC. Fully 78% of Americans believe that Jesus rose from the dead. We are not sure how genuine their faith is; however, surely, God would have more regard for Americans than most other populations.

If God wanted to start punishing nations, why wouldn’t he obliterate some other countries ahead of the United States? Apparently, France has a virtually godless population. We think the same could be said about the Scandinavian countries. What about all the Christ-rejecting Muslim nations?

We are not sure what spirit is talking to Wilkerson, but it appears to be contradicting the Spirit who inspired the Bible, and for us, all claims of special inspiration must be consistent with Scripture.
