Ronald Weinland

Tribulation: 2008
Second Coming: 2011

Herbert Armstrong clone admits, “if someone says something and it doesn’t come to pass, they’re false. That’s what is referred to as a false prophet.

Weinland neglects to mention that he is a false prophet.

“2008…beginning in the spring time, things are going to begin happening here in the United States, and there’ll be about at six-month period of time that brings us to our demise…with nuclear weapons…I am a prophet…God has not sent a prophet for nearly 2,000 years to this earth; the last one was our Messiah…if someone says something and it doesn’t come to pass, they’re false. That’s what is referred to as a false prophet.”

Most futurists are smart enough not to trap themselves by attaching dates to their predictions. Many have been burned by this practice after making their own irresponsible pronouncements or witnessed others getting caught. But not only is Weinland uttering some of the most outrageous predictions extant today, he has hung himself and we hope, initiated a quick end to his “ministry” by clearly declaring that a specific major event had to occur in the spring of 2008: the United States was supposed to experience a nuclear attack on her major cities. This was to begin a 3½-year period of tribulation culminating in the second coming of Christ.

We won’t need to wait for Christ’s return to know whether Weinland is genuine. The nuclear attack failed to take place by the summer of ’08, so he’s a false prophet. He even says so. There’s a lot hanging in the balance here. Either Weinland is the first true prophet since Jesus Christ, or he’s just an especially stupid false prophet who would have been stoned to death had he made the same mistake in ancient Israel. (Deut. 18:20-22).

Now we wonder whether Weinland will do the honorable thing: return the tithe money he’s been collecting from biddable Christians. Who gets the leather chair, the snazzy globe and the cuff links? The good news here is Weinland’s income will, hopefully, soon vanish, and his victims will be able to save 10% of their incomes to spend on something useful.

Amazingly, Weinland still peddles his book with “2008” right on the cover!
