Awakening Christians from the futurist delusion

Billy and Franklin Graham

Preparing believers for “life in the last days.”

—Billy Graham

The Second Coming could be delayed “a thousand years.”

—Franklin Graham

Does Franklin know something his father doesn’t, or are they both deluded?

It is with reluctance I take it upon myself to criticize such respected Christian leaders as the Grahams. Nevertheless, I feel compelled to add them to my Delusion Alert list.

I remember watching Dr. Billy Graham on our black and white TV in the mid-sixties. Pointing to world conditions, he warned people to repent of their sins because the Second Coming of Christ was just around the corner.

Graham continued to preach the imminent return of Christ throughout his entire ministry. In his book Storm Warning (1992), he speculated the Second Coming was “perhaps just ahead” (Billy Graham, Storm Warning [Dallas: Word Publishing, 1992], 290). Graham has been preaching this same message since 1934. So, as of the time of this writing (2012), Christ’s return has been imminent for 78 years!

Now that Graham has reached old age, his son, Franklin, has become more prominent. He says the return of Christ could be delayed by “a hundred or even a thousand years” (Franklin Graham, Living Beyond the Limits [Nashville: Thomas Nelson, Inc., 1998], 190).

However, in light of the 2008/2009 global economic downturn, evidently, Graham, Sr. felt it was time to dust off his old sermons and get people ready for the Second Coming again: “This year, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will focus on the return of Jesus Christ and help prepare believers for life in the last days” (see link below). And amazingly, Franklin, the one who said the return of Christ could be delayed by “a hundred or even a thousand years,” now claims the coming of Christ will take place “soon.” (See video link below.)

Graham, Sr. says, “I have felt for a long time that the church has long neglected prophetic truth and, as a result, has failed to carry out God’s revealed program not only for the church itself but has failed to tell the world of God’s plan for the future.” (See link below.)

Prophetic truth? God’s plan for the future? These confused men have no clue about the future. The real failure here is the failure of the Grahams’ countless predictions to come to pass.

I have my own prediction: Franklin is going to get old just like his father, continue to preach the same pitiful delusion his father has taught for decades and eventually, hand the ministry over to his son so he can continue what can only be described as false prophecy. See Deut. 18:20-22.
