Crystal Lewis
Christ’s return “so soon” since 1996.
…they were singing a new song before the throne… (Rev. 14:3, ESV throughout.)
Lewis definitely needs a new song!

As far as we can determine, Crystal Lewis first released her song People Get Ready, Jesus is Comin’ in 1996 on her album Beauty for Ashes. It was released again in 1999, 2001 and 2002. She says Jesus is coming “so soon.”
In 2006, ten years after the first release, she was still performing it live — and in 2007, 2008 and 2009. No doubt, she will be singing it again this year, the following year and for the rest of her career.
Futurists don’t seem to have a clear or consistent definition of the word soon. When they quote Rev. 1:1, they say “soon” means “in God’s time,” i.e., thousands of years. However, when Lewis sings it, does she really think Christ’s return might be thousands of years away? Obviously, she does not. But if soon should be defined the way she clearly means it, then Jesus must have returned soon after Revelation was written.
Futurists usually respond by claiming that the reason we know Jesus will return soon today is because “the signs are all around us.” For instance, they often point to the world’s terrible wars. However, they fail to understand that the signs were all around those in the first century including a horrendous time of war. This would mean Christ’s return could easily have occurred back then (as predicted throughout the New Testament).
Even if we should expect another return of Christ, surely, something cannot be expected to occur soon year after year after year. Perhaps Crystal needs to change her tune. We are not criticizing her musicianship. We like her singing all right; we just think she needs “a new song” (Rev. 14:3).
